Vishnu
Vishnu contains every possible contradiction and in consequence is therefore the great and complete god. The sacred writ states that Vishnu is 'the infinite ocean of the universe', from which the entire world springs forth. Therefore his symbol is water, either standing or seated upon. Also displayed at times you will find the seven-headed snake Ananta or Shesha, the symbol of watery elements. Vishnu's mount is Garuda an enormous eagle, sometimes in the form of a winged man with a curved beak. Vishnu is seen usually richly dressed and having four arms. On his forehead you will find inscribed a symbol in the shape of a U. This god always carries his symbols in his hands for easy recognition. Those four symbols are: white conch shell, rotating disk, golden mace, and lotus flower.
